January 25th 2002 - March 2nd 2002

Photographer and educator Hans Staartjes presents a series of photographic and digital explorations in this Lawndale exhibition. The simultaneously elegant and abstract imagery found in this series of work stems from the artist's own personal observations of his immediate surroundings. Staartjes's stylistic photographs provide the viewer with a medium through which the imagination can wander. Hans Staartjes was born in Aruba and was raised in Bogota, Colombia. He received a BA in English and Philosphy from the University of Birmingham in England in 1979 and an MFA from the University of Houston in 1996. Since earning his graduate degree, Staartjes has taken numerous courses in graphics at the Houston Community College. His work has been featured at Pulchri Studio (Netherlands); Houston Center for Photography (Houston, TX); Blaffer Gallery (Houston, TX); Galveston Arts Center (Galveston, TX); and San Francisco Camerawork (San Francisco, CA).
